Caught up in the Christmas decorating spirit

Needing a Christmas tree, my friend, BK created one. BK and I work well together, though our tastes are very different. She claims that she is too left brained to be creative. It’s not true, as evidenced by the Christmas tree she made.

We went shopping and looked at the available artificial trees, but none of them really fit the bill. I kept saying you need something tall and skinny to fill that space and pushed forward my idea of a two dimensional tree using swags.

“I have some chicken wire, maybe we can use that?” BK mused. Enthusiastically, I agreed, I pictured an advant-garde  tree adorned with a few ribbons and large sparkly balls. BK had other ideas. She bought garland, white LED lights, and Christmas balls in gold and silver. She ended up with was a narrow eight foot tree  tastefully adorned with organdy bows and clusters of ornaments. It looks like an expensive boutique designer tree. Not at all what I had envisioned, much more glamorous. Amusingly, our mutual friends asked if I had made the tree for her.

Leaving her house, I was feeling inspired. Having seen lots and lots of wreath ideas in online magazines, I wanted to supplement my scant decorations. Miguel’s Fantasia had signs proclaiming half off on Christmas merchandise.

I entered with  a plan.  I was going to buy two white wreaths, some artificial poinsettias (or roses)  and butterflies. In my mind’s eye, I had it envisioned perfectly. Silver, pale pink and green were my choices. Wandering down the aisles, I found the perfect poinsettias, except they were trimmed with gold! None of the butterflies were in the right color! I spent more than an hour, meandering through the enormous store gathering materials. I had a cart load of supplies, but wasn’t happy with how they looked. Shell-shocked and dazed by all the glitter, I had an epiphany. I think these flashes of inspiration are brought on by a combination of fatigue and sensory overload. I would change my color scheme!

Abandoning my cart, I started again. This time, I stocked up on ivory, gold and bronze, eschewing the premade white wreath, I got a plain wire frame. Making my escape from the store, I caught a taxi home.

Walking in the  front door, I felt like I had been hit in the head with a sledge. Somehow,in my creative frenzy, I had forgotten something. Our entry way, our recibidor is decorated in silver and black!

You (almost) make me ashamed for not being sure if I want to drag my fake tree down from the attic. The one that's pre-strung with lights. Still too much work.

Lee, I started on my wreath, got frustrated because my "genius" idea wasn't working and banished the stuff to the loft.
I am thinking of just waiting until closer to Christmas to decorate, after all, it stays up until Three King's Day here.

Theresa

Whatever you create is sure to be delightful and festive.

Contessa, that is very kind and sweet of you, but when I fail, I fail in a big way! LOL, it's okay, I learn more from my craft fails than my successes.

Theresa
