I guess it’s working!

Today, my friend, Joanna, published an interview, included in that interview were some photos of my friend Beth and me .
I took the liberty of lifting two of her photos. I was totally shocked at how heavy I used to be. While I remember the photo being taken in front of the rose bush at Rosa’s home in Sta Elena, I have to guess that it was taken two years ago.
The photo on the right was taken two days ago. Oddly enough I seem to standing in a hole since I am two whole inches taller than Beth!
It just goes to show that we really don’t see ourselves. I’ve been feeling frustrated and convinced that I had not really lost any weight.

Almost the same pose but in December of 2008-2010 3102009, since I still have that top, I slipped it on, stepped outside to have Husband take quick snapshot.001 I think I should keep that top and periodically take photos with it on. I still have those jeans, but it was simply too warm to put them on today.
The reason that I was feeling frustrated was that Mrs WB and I went shopping yesterday. It was great fun, we didn’t buy anything, she wanted a tankini, but apparently they either are so in demand that the shops have sold out or the opposite has happened, with the buyers not ordering any. At Say arz (Sears to you people NOB), I found what must be the only 34 DD bra in all of Merida. At this point even the fact that they wanted almost mx $500 for it didn’t phase me one bit. However, being prudent, I tried it on. It created that double boob thing that resembles a muffin top but further north. I find it rather ironic that losing weight is actually causing me problems finding foundation garments that fit. I can only hope that a few more pounds down the road, the problem will sort itself out. It’s not like I look like Dolly Parton or anything, it’s been decades since I caused any industrial accidents.

This morning I went from Huacho Martin to Huacho Martin looking for lingerie elastic. They have it in the samples book at some of the locations but none seem to have it in stock. Fortunately, I was able to find something that I think will work. Wish me luck, this weekend I am planning on having adventures in bra making.

Congratulations on having validated your weight loss and maintenance with an objective measure, Theresa! That is always reassuring.

I have a theory associated with weightloss that runs like this:

When you are fat, your eyes are fat too and it is hard to realize that you have gotten fatter. That's why it's always our clothes not closing properly that inspires efforts to slim down. But, when you lose weight your eyes shrink as a consequence, thus you don't really feel that you have lost weight--except that, naturally, you can zip up your clothing... So unfair!

Oh, I almost forgot, my eyes are pretty chubby right now. It's a good thing I only have elastic in my clothing!

Mommy w/commuter hubby, it's going okay. I found a couple of tutorials online and made a pattern. Bra 1.0 is almost finished, but it needs some refining.

Teresa, I'd like to lose about 15 pounds but that depends upon whether I put on more muscle or not. I need some definite toning!

Madame Pliers! LOL, yes, like the fun house mirror that makes you tall and thin! Fat eyeballs have more surface area so they distort the view.
Seriously, I think it's because most weight gain is gradual we just don't notice a few more ounces each day until blam, aliens have taken up residence in your body!
All I can say is William Banting was right!

Theresa

You "guess" it's working???

Darn tootin it is! You look great. I wish I had your enthusiasm and patience.

Keep up the good work!

P.S.

I think that you are the only person that I have ever known, or heard of, that makes their own bras! :-)

Theresa, I am a new reader and am enjoying your blog very much.

I too, am working on losing weight. I had an accident 2 years ago and have been in a wheelchair (and walker)ever since. I have gained an obscene amount of weight and have joined weight watchers online. 17 pounds so far but a LONG way to go.

I am very interested in how the bra making goes, I hope you will do a posting when you are finished. I usually buy a bunch of bras (36DD) when we make one of our, very infrequent, runs to the border for supplies not available here in Mexico. I am also familiar with the whole muffin thing!

Mikey, Well, I have to say it isn't one of those things that I wanted to do. I have made my share of historically accurate corsets (from the 1500s and 1800s) but that is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Amazingly there is quite a lot of information out there on how to do it!

Thanks EricC!

Shannon,
Sears and Liverpool both carry your size in Merida. If you don't have those stores near you, I bet they have stores in Moralia or Guadelajara (on the map they look close by, I know the reality may be different).

I have made one prototype, as sewing projects go it was pretty easy. If you have a bra that fits you are way ahead of the game! All you need to do is make a pattern, you don't need to go through the whole fitting process. Save the under-wires from the worn out
ones to reuse in the new ones.

I'll post more about this project soon.

Theresa

Big congratulations Theresa...
I like following your progress.
So, I take it the lo-carb thing, or the Paleo thing, or just being mindful? is key? do tell!
You are an encouraging example.
Thanks! -kris

Krisla,
Mindfulness is always important. I believe it would be harder to do this if I still lived NOB. If I shop at the Mercado and Maxi-carne instead of Walmart (for example) it's pretty easy to avoid processed foods and it's cheaper!

More than anything it's not eating grains. We're more primal than paleo because we do eat some dairy (yogurt, cream and cheese).

We started out doing the low carb thing but it's too easy start to think that you need to buy special foods etc with that mind set.

If we're out and someone serves us something with wheat in it, we usually just eat it rather than make a big deal out of it. However, I have found that I can tell the difference the next day. Also eating sugar seems to really affect me negatively.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Theresa

Thanks for your reply, Theresa.
I need a plan, and you have just been so successful, you serve as a good role model. Thanks for sharing what works for you--it does sound quite down-to-earth and doable. Everything you've said, now & before, just really resonates with me. Thanks.
I will stay tuned! (and try it too!)

krisla,
If there is anything that I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask.

The best website that I have found is Mark's Daily Apple.

OMG...you are one beautiful lady. They say that the slower it comes off, the most likely it is to be permanent. Congratulations!

Contessa, this is what I get for ignoring my blog. You paid me this awesome compliment and I let it languish awaiting moderation due to my laziness.
You are so very kind, thank you!
