People change and so do blogs

¿What do I do all day? has been online since October 22, 2007. My very first post, Great Plans and Ambitions was a bit short. In it I announced my idea of creating an online plant encyclopedia. I never made the plant encyclopedia,my interests changed. In the six years that I’ve been blogging I’ve posted 884 times and received 5711 comments. I don’t count spam but I do count my own replies. I believe it’s important to answer comments, I even blogged about it. That post resonated with my fellow bloggers so much that I immediately followed it up with The Great Comment Debate.

Husband and I have lived in Merida for close to a decade now, and while where I live influences many of the things that I do, it has become less of a focus for this blog. I’ve come to the realization that where I live my life is not as important as how I live my life.

I’ve been doing some serious thinking about what my purpose is. I want to live a creative and authentic life. I also want to help other people do the same thing. With that in mind, I am revamping this blog. It’s moving to a new home soon and getting a new look. Don’t worry, I will still blog about living in Mexico and most of my old posts are making the move too.

I have come up with a mission statement. Please tell me what you think about it. DIY means Do It Yourself.

Yes, you can do it yourself. You can take control of your life. We are lead to believe that we have to let life happen to us, not create our own paths, We can do it ourselves. The information  to live creative, healthy and abundant lives is readily available. We all are capable people.

We are told by the media that cooking is too complicated and time consuming.It's not, unless you want it to be. I see all these misguided tutorials that say "No sew!!!" like they are doing you a favor. Rather than show you a simple way using needle and thread, they proceed to have you do things in a messy manner. If their no-sew method is so involved, no wonder people are  afraid of sewing being too complicated or difficult. People are looking for DIY for many things, for their health, to save money, to live better lives and be in control of them.

I want to talk about taking control back of our lives; of DIYing our lives. Maybe I am crazy and trying to do too much but I believe in this. It is amazing how many people don't try stuff because they have bought the idea that they can't do it themselves. Even if something doesn’t work out, you have gained a lot by just trying.

So my question is, will you be following me on my journey? Or have our paths diverged?
